Which SAC code should influencers use?
Most paid creator content is billed under SAC 998361 (advertising services) at 18% GST. 998365 covers selling ad space or time, which fits less often. If your work is unusual, check with your CA.
When do I charge CGST + SGST and when IGST?
For a business client, the place of supply is usually the client's registered state. If it's the same as your state, charge CGST 9% + SGST 9%. If it's a different state, charge IGST 18%. The generator works this out from the first two digits of each GSTIN.
Do I need GST registration as a creator?
You must register once your turnover from services crosses ₹20 lakh in a financial year (₹10 lakh in some special-category states). Below that it's optional, and many brands ask for it anyway. If you aren't registered, tick 'I'm not GST-registered' and no GST is added.
Is TDS deducted on the GST amount?
No. When GST is shown separately on the invoice, TDS is deducted on the value excluding GST (CBDT Circular 23/2017). This invoice shows the TDS line that way.
How does the GSTIN check work?
A GSTIN is 15 characters: a 2-digit state code, the 10-character PAN, an entity number, the letter Z and a check character. We recompute the check character with GSTN's mod-36 method, so typos get caught. It confirms the format only. It doesn't confirm the GSTIN is active; use the GST portal's search for that.
Is barter (free products) taxable under GST?
Yes. Barter is a supply, and GST is due on the fair market value of what you receive. A brand giving you a product for a post is paying you in kind.
